Phyllis Kirchner-Reiss is a familiar face behind the desk at Sunset Resort. She has been a part of the Sunset family for several years and will continue to be, but her artistic sensibility, and a need for sustaining work through the winter months, led Kirchner-Reiss to start her own pottery business this year.
While Kirchner-Reiss had been working out of her basement and selling pieces at a few venues around town—Sunset, KK Fiske and the Island Fair to name a few—for the last seven years, she felt it was the time to commit to starting a business. “The energy and artist in me wants me to do this,” she explains.
So, she opened a gallery and studio adjacent to her home at 1428 Airport Road. Washington Island Pottery is open most days, and hours vary.
