Washington Island needs at least 25.6 acres to field-spread the one million gallons of wastewater generated here each year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ code.
The 46 acre Jorgenson property was seen as a way to meet that need. Only recently has the Town learned that relatively steep land might reduce traditional spreading on the Jorgenson land to as little as 12.5 acres. Less than 8 of those acres have been approved for spreading by a certified person. That’s less than one-third of what’s needed.
