When Donna and
Larry Russell learned that their long-time friend Lois Krueger was diagnosed
with stage four cancer, they knew they wanted to help. Steve and Jan Fisco, also
close friends, joined in the effort to organize a fundraiser.
Day after day, Islanders arrived at the Russell’s door with hundreds of beautiful donations for an auction. When their garage was overflowing, Donna organized the items into eighty baskets and grouping that could be auctioned.
People arrived at the Farm Museum on Sept. 26, starting at noon, to look over the live auction selections and to begin bidding on over a dozen selections in the silent auction. Jenny Krueger had collected many items and over ninety generous gift certificates from all over Door County that were included in the silent auction, along with many beautiful local donations from lumber, furniture, candy, and vegetables.
Lunch was available too. Volunteers served hot dogs and Kate Kaniff prepared delicious gyros. Krueger T-shirts were sold throughout the afternoon.
